Coffee is a staple in homes all throughout the country with many people having at least one cup each morning. Today I’d like to share a bit about America’s oldest family-owned and operated coffee company, Community Coffee. Started in 1919 by Henry Norman “Cap” Saurage who pioneered the “experience” of coffee. Cap sold the coffee in his country store and called the coffee “Community” because of the support he received from the community that he loved.
Today the Saurage family strives to produce the best coffee in the US by importing, roasting and distributing the highest-quality coffee beans in the world. Their premium line of coffee includes light, medium and dark roasts including their Louisiana blend which embodies the distinctive flavor of Community Coffee’s home state. Their Private Reserve line of gourmet coffees is top-notch, made only with the top 1% of coffee beans from around the world.
I had the pleasure of trying four of Community Coffee’s blends including Dark Roast, Cafe Special, Breakfast Blend and French Roast. Community Coffee offers traditional ground coffee, single-serve cups (like the those that I received) and tea. After trying all four blends, the one that I like the best is the Cafe Special variety. It is a medium dark roast coffee that has a smooth flavor. I added a bit of sweetener to my cup and it was delicious.
Community Coffee makes a large variety of flavored and traditional coffees. Some of the varieties that I’d like to try include Pecan Praline, French Vanilla and Bread Pudding. Don’t they sound just mouth-watering? I’m also interested in trying their teas because I am a big fan of iced tea, especially as the weather starts warming up here in Kentucky.
Community Coffee is a big supporter of giving back to local communities and our military. Through their Community Cash for Schools Program, schools have earned new textbooks, computers, playground equipment, and even a natural bird sanctuary for a science class from Community Coffee. The program has been active for the past 25 years and it seems easy to enroll your school through the Community Coffee website.
More than a decade ago Community Coffee began the Military Match Program where they double customer coffee orders for free and send pallets of coffee overseas to our military personnel. This past year Community Coffee reached a landmark of sending more than 20,000 pounds of coffee to our military since the program’s inception. What a great way to support our troops!
Available throughout the southeastern United States, Community Coffee has become a staple in many households. I can say first-hand that their coffee is top-notch and I feel good supporting a company that gives back to communities around the country. Have you tried Community Coffee? If not, check for it at your local grocery store. If they don’t have it, ask the manager to order some. You won’t be disappointed!
